Is there a woman, fundamental to the arts in L.A., whom you'd like to recognize? Please write her name here, perhaps with a Luna Bar-style tribute, and we will sing her praises on July 11.
Use the "Comments" function to send in a .pdf of the music you'd like to sing at the 3:00 Jam Session. If you prefer, send the .pdf to [email protected].
When I turned 50 last February, I promised myself that I would finally host the women's retreat I'd been dreaming about for years. What began as a weekend away for grandmothers raising their children's children became a focus group for middle-aged women, and finally settled into a healing workshop for women artists in transition.
It's my sincere hope that during the day apart, we'll support each other in taking a long, hard look at where we are as artists, acknowledging both individual and collective bodies of work, and determining what our next contributions should be. I wish to thank especially my mother, Irene, who contributed to the operating costs of the retreat; the inimitable Lauri Goldenhersh who, with the same generosity that created Lauri's List, guided me through marketing and organizing the retreat; Desiree Glover, of the Cathedral Center's Kaleidoscope Institute, for enthusiastic encouragement; the women who said "Yes," not even knowing what the retreat would be about; and our practitioners Jen Mulder, Joann Cazden, Monika Bruckner and Saundra Hall-Hill.
